PAIRS & UP POKER
Pairs & Up Poker is a patent pending poker game played on a standard Blackjack table with its own unique layout. On the layout are six betting positions. Within each betting position are 8 betting circles denoting a series of poker hands along with an Ante bet, a Double Match side bet and a Progressive at the very top of the configuration.
Playing Cards
Pairs & Up Poker is played with a 52 card deck comprised of 25 aces, 12 twos, 8 threes, and 7 fours. There are no jokers and nothing is wild.
Object
The goal of Pairs & Up Poker is to create a 4 card poker hand using a combination of cards between the dealer and the player.
The Rules
Play begins with each player making an Ante bet. The player may also bet the "Double Match" and the Progressive, (if offered) but these bets are optional.
Each player is dealt 2 cards face down along with the dealer. The dealer's card are community cards and will be used by the player to create their four card poker hand.
After the cards are dealt, the player may pick their cards and look at them. The dealer will then reveal one of their two community cards for everyone to see. The Dealer's second card will remain face down hidden from view.
With knowledge of 3 cards, the player faces a decision–fold or play.
FOLDING -- If the player folds their Ante bet is forfeited and their cards placed in the fold rectangle on the table. These cards will remain until the end of play when they will be used to verify any match up with the Double Match or Progressive.
PLAYING -- If the player decides to play their hand they must choose one of the poker hands featured on the table. Multiple choices are sometimes available, but only one choice is allowed!
THE EIGHT POKER HANDS ARE: 2 Pair, 3 of a Kind, 4 of a Kind, Straight, Flush, Straight Flush, 2 Pair Flush or 4 of a Kind "Ace" Flush. Each poker hand pays different odds depending on the difficulty of the hand–and a player may choose only one.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The 3 of a Kind is the only wager that does not require four cards to win. The 3 of a Kind wager offers the player a chance to win, push or check their bet possibly allowing the player to keep their money until the next round. However, the 3 of a Kind bet is not foolproof or guaranteed. If the player bets the 3 of a Kind, but the hand becomes a 4 of a Kind with the dealer's final card, the player will lose!
Any four card hand takes precedence over a 3-card hand and the highest ranked 4-card hand takes precedence of a lower 4-card hand. For example: If the player bets 2 Pair, but makes a 2 Pair Flush they lose. To Win, your hand must match your exact bet!
All "Play" bets will be double the value of the Ante. This rate will be set by the casino.
Once a player has placed their "play" bet their cards are to be tucked or set down alongside their bet. This motion will designate to the dealer that the player is finished and that their hand is set.
After all "play" wagers are established on the table the dealer will reveal their last card. This last card will set the poker hands for each player. The round is now is now concluded and the dealer will begin taking and paying the bets that have won and lost. This will include the winners and losers for the Double Match and Progressive.
DOUBLE MATCH
Double Match is an optional side bet on the Pairs & Up poker game. It is bet at the same time as the ante bet before any cards are dealt. The Double Match minimum/maximum bet will be set by the casino. The Double Match bet is simple and clear. All four cards between the dealer and player must match exactly in number. Suits will have no impact on the matches except in the case of the super jackpot which requires the dealer and player to match 3's and 4's of diamonds. All payouts for the Double Match are posted on the layout.
PROGRESSIVE
The Progressive is a side wager based on the player achieving a four card flush. It is an independant wager separate from the Pairs & Up poker hand and Double Match. In all likelihood the Progressive will be tied to an electronic jackpot allowing for large payouts based on the type of flush obtained by the player. Not all casinos will offer the Progressive side bet.
GAME STRATEGY FOR PAIRS & UP POKER
Players are responsible for setting their own hand. Setting your hand is final. There is a level of strategy involved with Pairs & Up Poker. Sometimes it is wiser to fold then play. When selecting your play take time to note the choices that can be made. Not all choices are equal–think before you choose.
THE GAME'S OUTCOME:
Remember, winning hands require the combined use of four cards (both the player & dealer) except for the 3 of a Kind. The 3 of a Kind is the only possible hand where you may win with 3 cards, but not always. If a player bets 3 of a Kind and obtains a hand of 3 Aces it is considered a push and the player will retain both his ante and play bet for the next round. Additionally, four of a kind cannot be bet as two pair of the same number and a 2 Pair Flush is not the same thing as 2 Pair.
A player can only win when all 4 cards match the correct "play" bet they've selected and once a hand is set no changes are allowed!
All payouts on the winning hands will be paid according to the payout table listed on the layout.
Ante bets receive odds just like the play bet. In the case of a push, the player will retain both his ante and play bet. To be clear: The ante bet wins the same odds as the play bet chosen by the player. They are a coupled wager. So, if the player's payout is 4 to 1, the ante is paid 4 to 1 as well. If the player folds, the ante bets loses. All losing outcomes (play) bets will include the ante bet as well.
WINNING & LOSING
If the player folds they lose their Ante.
If the player chooses the correct "play" bet and matches it with the right cards they win both the Play and Ante bet.
If the player chooses the wrong "Play" hand or their cards do not match the winning hand of their choice they lose both their Ante and Play bet.
If the player bets the 3 of a Kind and they make 3 of a Kind they win (except 3 Aces which is a push).
If the player bets the 3 of a kind, but achieves a greater hand with all four cards (including a Flush, Two Pair, 2 Pair Flush, or 4 of a Kind) they lose.
Any "Play" bet win includes a matching odds payout on the Ante bet.
Voids and forfeitures:
Players may not show their cards to one another. Doing so may forfeit their hand. This includes verbal communication and signaling to other players.
Any misdeals will void all hands.
If the dealer's cards are inadvertently or otherwise revealed, discovered or detected by the player(s) before betting is complete, the game will be deemed void and the cards collected.
All management decisions are final.
